Leela Bai's story
~Paitent's son-in-law speaking
What is your name?
Lehru Berwal.
What is your relation to the patient?
She is my mother-in-law; her name is Leela Bai Berwal.
What type of cancer does she have?
Initially, she had cancer in the uterus, which later spread to the kidneys. Now it has also reached the liver. Treatment is ongoing for that.
How did you come to know about it?
It started with pain in the uterus, which led to the discovery. We had come here a year ago, and treatment was going on then too, but we discontinued it midway. A few days ago, we went to Chittorgarh for treatment, and the doctors there referred us to [MB Hospital]. We arrived here just yesterday.
Is the government covering the treatment expenses?
Yes, the government pays for it; we are not paying ourselves.
How did you feel when you found out about the illness?
We were a bit anxious, but we thought the sooner the treatment begins, the better. Delays could make things worse.
What advice would you give to people who have just been diagnosed with cancer?
I would say the treatment should be continued without interruption; stopping it midway can lead to more problems.
